whew!
just got finished with my first OFFICIAL job-related event. as in, it was an event that related to the measure of success i have in my job... "my event" if you will, though totally a team effort.
time to take care of myself, and lay off the 11-hour workdays... until the next one rolls 'round in a few weeks, of course.
current mood: and boy my feet are tired!

dumpster diver
on a random tuesday morning, i wander to my car on my way to work, taking along a domestic chore to stop by the trash can on the way by. i'm careful to lift the lid with the hand that contains my keys, careful not to fling them in to the murky darkness of the trash can along with my kitchen garbage. having dumped, i continued to my vehicle, started it and went along the sunny road towards a long day ahead. 6 blocks later, the little niggle in the back of my head becomes a full-fledged flag: my carefully prepared lunch is NOT in the seat next to me... which can only mean one thing. i head back to the alley containing my designated trash recepticle, and peer down... there it is, sitting neatly on top of the bag of my kitchen scraps. unfortunately, they are the only 2 items in the bin, causing me to have to balance the leaning beast over while holding up the lid and reaching deep into its bowels. luckily for me, the handles were sticking straight up, and i managed to snag the flying food somewhat easily and relatively cleanly before stashing it safely on the passenger seat on my second attempt to start the day.
current mood: mmm, appetizing

everything's coming up
my boss apparently told a coworker of mine that i had "no idea of the avalanche about to hit me." well, he was pretty right. so sorry for the quietness, i realize there's catching up still left to do. BUT! i can tell i feel quite proud and accomplished about the fact that i planted my herb garden yesterday. some of you (or likely none of you) may remember that as the tangible part of my new year's resolution. i'm actually okay with it dying on me, i think... at least i don't anticipate feeling TOO too bad if it all shrivels up and dies.
current mood: ooh, what shall i make?

100 mph
i knew what i was getting into with this job... sorta. i knew about the programs, i knew about the commitment, i knew the spreading of myself thin would be commonplace. i didn't know, however, i'd be working until the cows come home for weeks and weeks at a time. this weekend will be the ultimate haul, as i will be on campus before the crack of dawn (we're talking in the 6am hour) and probably not leaving until well after sunset (10pm anyone?) for both saturday AND sunday. back to the grind on monday, no rest for the weary... ((sigh)).
EDITOR'S NOTE: i was at work for 27 out of the 48 hours of the weekend. ((sigh))x2
current mood: and "overtime" is what exactly?

beat up, worn down
i've been working some long hours, and crazy days, coupled with some new injuries from i don't know where (i'm thinking it's mud run injuries that were buried deep down, and are just now coming to the surface?), i've decided vegas will NOT be graced with my presence this weekend. i actually decided this at the beginning of this week, when it turned out that my left glute was on some sort of protest of pain, but the truth is, i liked watching the little countdown clock in the corner. simple pleasures, right?
current mood: happy easter!

social avenger strikes again!
setting: quiet, dim, hip restaurant with surprisingly fantastic acoustics. a party of 10 sits down in the corner next to a middle-aged duo looking to wrap up their meal. the large party happens to consist of 9 asians and a whitey-white chick...
m-a woman: (mumble, mumble) wow, that's a lot of asian girls...
m-a man: no look, there are a couple of guys in there.
m-a woman: oh yeah, there are a couple of guys. they're probably going to kung-fu us in the parking lot.
w-w chick: (looking directly at offending couple) well, ACTUALLY, *i'm* the only one in the group who practices martial arts.
awkward silence, broken by the arrival of the check and a quick exit by the couple, stage right
current mood: uhh, really??
