tadaima!
i'm here, chillin' with chester, and just got off the phone with papa-hikosawa to confirm my train arrival tomorrow. while on the outside, i'm bundled up tight with cold weather and freezing wind, i noticed myself melting just a little in the inside when i caught certain sounds and smells that reminded me that i'm on my way "home". ps - just to get this trip off on the right foot, the japanese government definitely now has an official immigration entry photo of me throwing double japanese-v-peace signs. heck ya. current mood:  f-f-f-freeeeeezing

giri-giri
i made the decision to skip practice last night in an attempt to literally get my stuff together. it really wasn't a decision i took lightly, and i had every intention on being done with all the stuff i needed to do before i left (including, of course, buying more presents!). so did i get it done? ... ((let's all join in on this one))... of course not. i instead spent 2+ hours on the phone with a boy, completely distracted from what i was trying to accomplish, and no farther along in my To Do list. it's going to be a long night. current mood:  i aim to get at least 4 hours sleep tonight!

ah, so they've learned
usually when i go out of town, i'm not big on bringing back souvenirs... at least not for anyone else :) i do, however, try to fulfill requests if i'm given the assignment. well, word must have gotten out about that, because i have no less than 6 different missions to accomplish in my tiny little trip... and unfortunately none of them involve giving me something to do during my LAX layover. current mood:  i should start thinking about packing

my world just got a little smaller
considering the target audience, i've been surprised that i haven't seen more friends, classmates, or colleagues on the dodgeball courts over the course of my (albeit short) ref'ing career. once i ran in to some friends from petco when i subbed for another ref, and then i mysteriously had a friend of a friend show up to sub in a team a few weeks ago. that all changed yesterday. cue the former colleagues, travis' good friends kim and kevin, a local morning radio show, and a high school friend... they all ended up on my court last night. sort of crazy. i've broadened my reach when i called that radio station this morning... only after one of the hosts made the comment "... and the ref was kind of being a baby". oh no she dih'nt. so i called them up. i think they were surprised, to say the least. though i may have gotten in a little bit of trouble when i outted my boss when i said i hadn't been paid in a while... the check went in to the mail today. any publicity is good publicity, right? current mood:  celebritt-y

this year has been a long time in coming. but i'm so excited for its possibilities! it certainly started out with the same crazy shananigans that i hope to repeat all throughout the year... a strange combination of costume changes, twister championships, and learning "happy new year" in thai :) best to you and yours in this very fortunate year (8 is lucky in lots o' cultures)! current mood: my future's so bright
